Keokuk's Reserve Image

Subject

Meskwaki from the "upper villages, abandoned in 1830" may have congregated here. DeWard mapped several trails leading from this village to other Native settlements. There is also some interesting lifeways information associated with this spot; missionary Cutting Marsh camped at the cornfields, which were at a remove from the village, and observed Meskwaki people harvesting and processing corn while encamped at the fields.
