Description

Auguste Chouteau, a fur trader from the 19th century, described the founding of Iowaville. According to historians Michael Green and Saul Schwartz, several Ioway families relocated to Iowaville to improve access to French, British and Spanish trade goods. This is best demonstrated by the archaeological remains found at the site.
