Flooding Iowa River

Subject

2008 Flood

Description

Several months of nearly continuous rain compounded an already heavy thaw in the spring of 2008. In early February, experts and local officials began holding meetings in preparation of potential flooding. By June, the Coralville Reservoir north of Iowa City reached capacity and a flood grew imminent. The photo above shows the Iowa River at capacity, rushing past the UI Hydroscience and Engineering building. Photo Courtesy: UI Digital Library.
